WEEKEND REPORT, UPCOMING EVENTS, CHANGES, JUNIOR POINTS & FUNDING BREAKDOWN REPORT, PLUS MUCH MORE.. Issue 88
Myerstown PA, August 30th, 2010:
Linda's Speedway's Lebanon Valley 100 for the Slingshots
that was to take place on Saturday, September 25 will now be 50 laps.
The Slingshots will go in dual heats instead of time trials. A few new twist
for the Slingshot 50 will find the Pit Stop Challenge at halfway and will
feature the first half of the cars the way they are running at halfway. Also
new for the Slingshot event will be double file restarts with the exception
of the final 10 laps plus all starts and restarts will be on the front
stretch. Slingshot entry forms are available at the track or on line at
www.lindasspeedway.com. The first 25
Slingshots to enter will park in the first row of the pit area so sign up
today.
September 10 will feature the 600 Pro Series in a special event along with
the 270cc Micro Sprints, Chargers and Slingshots. Gary Hieber could set a
new track record for wins if he can find victory lane before the 2010
Linda's season closes.
This weekend will see the Empire Region's
2nd to last point race as Penn-Can Speedway will be holding their version of
the Small Car Nationals on Sept.5th.Hopefully many teams will head to the
Susquehanna, PA oval to make this a successful event and show the race fans
that the Slingshots can support an event like this and also put on quite a
show.
I had a nice chat with Kutztown Fair Speedway promoter Kerry Meitzler and he
said that the Fair Board would like to discuss the 2011 season before the
end of September as compared to the February meetings of the last few
seasons. That could be a positive sign for the 1/5th mile oval in regards to
early season planning and scheduling.
The Great Lakes Region had their points closer on Saturday with Jeremy
Paulson getting the title of 2010 Great Lakes Region Champion. Lexi Schott
took the 2nd spot with Dan Olson rounding out the paying positions. Next up
for Button Buck are the Hartland Super Nationals on Saturday Sept. 4th.Due
to an early season rain out, this will be the 4th race for the Button Buck
teams and if they have no travel plans, all of these races will count for
their National Championship points. Button Buck had separately scheduled
races for Regional's and Nationals, which gave many teams a chance to
overcome some mechanical issues if they had a bad night in an off points
night race.
Action Engineering and Cole Queensland are really making things happen at
Button Buck as many of the younger fans are asking questions about the
Slingshots and the track rental car has been used the whole season.
Rich will be heading out to take in the festivities and congratulate the
2010 Great Lakes Region Champion Jeremy Paulson.
The top 3 runners at Caroga Creek had their engines impounded and will be
inspected here at SE. The top 2 from Friday nights 77 lap Jim Loux Sponsored
Dual Event Weekend will now be locked in to the Lebanon Valley event at
Linda's. It is a shame that some of the Junior teams at Accord didn't make
the 90 minute ride to Caroga to get some seat time and a chance to race
against some different competitors.
Some special congrats are in order to Charlie Shaver, who sat out the last
few years ,only to return on a part time schedule this year getting one of
Hamlin's All Star wins. From reports out of Hamlin, there were quite a few 3
and 4 wide battles throughout all classes. Sounds like a great night of
racing, just off Int 84.
Still getting emails regarding West End. Heckman and Raidline will be
looking into ways of streamlining next year's program and hope that everyone
that attended this year's race, will put this on your 2011 schedule when the
date is confirmed. Borgers has also had some recent runs where the winner
was not decided until the last corner. A Cone Race was held this week and
the results were highly favorable.
Multi-time Slingshot winner Kevin Albert, Jr. had to ward off West End
competitor Ryan Godown to get his first small block modified win at Big
Diamond Raceway on Friday night. It makes us proud seeing the Slingshot
drivers so successful in their quest to move up the racing ladder.
A recent discussion concerning use of Super National points for the Elite 11
in 2011 has us looking at only 1 Super National being used in the driver's
home region with the other Super National being counted to be outside of the
region. We realize that many teams do not like to travel due to costs and
other issues, but we need to have the National Champion, be the National
Champion and not get all points from the local racing. I will look into each
region getting 2 Super Nationals so all teams have equal time to plan ahead.
The response to the Ft. Wayne "Racin' in
the New Year" has been tremendous. Tony Barhorst and his Rumble Series would
like everyone to know that he will increase the starting field from the 14
in 2007 to possibly 20. His plan is to have 18 qualify through the heats and
2 more added in a Fan Vote. He will be holding the minimum age at 10,but
with adequate experience and a signed parents waiver, he could give 8 and 9
year olds a temporary exemption will be in contact with Tony this week and
look to see if pre-entries will be needed. There is plenty of lodging, food
and entertainment areas within 10 minutes of the Coliseum. I already have
received positive responses from Dave McCullough, Brad Arnold, Anthony
Perrego, Paul Lotier,Jr and Randy Smith's S&S teams. Ryan Smith took both
$500 wins in 2007.The 2007 events saw the Slingshots get some very nice TV
time on the Speed Channel.
I might be making a trip to Trenton to talk to Sammons Motorsports regarding
the planning of the AC Indoor Classic's Snack Bowl 25.With them now
advertising the race, I am hoping to help with the details of qualifying and
the addition of 2 provisional's earned form this season. Kyle Hieber is the
defending champion and Ray Nemeth,Jr. will be looking to secure Herr's Snack
Foods for the highly successful run in January.

The final Junior National is coming up on Saturday Sept.18th at Hamlin
Speedway.
It looks like with the lack of interest in the Junior National Series
this quite possibly could be the last season for the Junior National
Series. It is a shame that these younger drivers will not have a chance
to visit other speedways and race against different competitors, with a
chance of putting some added money back into the race teams accounts,
but we left the series up to all race teams and this was the response.
Last season there were 53 Juniors accumulating points, this year
currently there are 28.
Thanks to one and all that made an appearance or 2.As you can tell 4th
through 8th will be a virtual shootout when the checkered is thrown at
Hamlin.
Best of luck to all teams that will be entering.
CAROGA CREEK DUAL EVENT WEEKEND, REMAINDER OF 2010 BIG RACES.. Issue 87
Myerstown PA, August 25th, 2010:
The Caroga Creek Dual Event Weekend will see the top 2 in Saturdays A Main
getting a guaranteed starting spot for the Lebanon Valley 50 at Lindas on
Sept 24-25.The Junior National is scheduled for Saturday the 28th.
I have been looking over all my schedules for the year. I have the original
Tentative 2010 Schedule, the Big Money Races Abound in 2010 Schedule
(handout and owner's mailer) and also looked at the EXCEL Program for the MA
Silver Region and I do not have listed a MA Silver as part of the Kutztown
National. I have not counted Kutztown in the Silver Region.
Here is what we currently have for the remainder of the year:
West End is a (NAT / MA Silver)
Penn-Can (Empire)
Hamlin is a (Super NAT / Silver / JR NAT)
Lindas is a (Super NAT / Silver)
Paradise is a (NAT / Empire)
Borgers is a (NAT / GOLD).
Button Buck has a (Great Lakes / Sup. NAT) on Sept 4th and
Florida has a (Sunshine Region / NAT) in NOV
To answer the few emails regarding Juniors running Lindas, as long as the
driver is 12 and over, even if they ran the Junior Class or not, they are
eligible to run Lindas.
WEST END PARTS CLARIFICATION, CAROGA CREEK SPECIAL DUAL WEEKEND.. Issue 86
Myerstown PA, August 24th, 2010:
Randy Smith and S&S will be the parts dealer at West End. I just got off the
phone with Randy and he will have a full supply of parts, if needed. My
email regarding delivering parts was not meant to take sales away from
Randy, it was in case someone needed something, I would be available to
deliver it.
They are over the 40 car entry mark, please take note that they are having a
50 car entry limit for all classes. If you have a friend in the micros,
please make sure they check with Rich or Steve to make sure the rosters are
not full. I'm hoping all competitors have their 2010 registration stickers
on. SE will be contributing to the special awards and as stated so many
times before, you do get something back when you pay in, by some form or
another.
Teching, scaling and all track rules will be overseen by Borgers Raceway
management. Please make sure you are at the drivers meeting.
In other news, the Kutztown National was only to be counted for National and
MA Gold Points for the All Stars and Junior National points for the younger
drivers.
Caroga Creek will host a special dual event weekend.

LINDA'S UPDATES, WEST END NEWS, FT. WAYNE INDY NEWS, PENN CAN, SUNSHINE REGION, BUTTON BUCK, SLINGSHOT FACEBOOK PAGE & MORE.. Issue 85
Myerstown PA, August 23rd, 2010:
The finalized plans for the Sept 24-25th Lebanon Valley Weekend at Lindas
will soon be completed. Among the changes to be looked at are the length of
the race, pit stop alternatives and restart options. More when received.
West End Fair Nationals will soon be here. Thursday, August 26th will see
the Small Car Nationals converge on the Gilbert, PA oval. The size of the
track used is, it is slightly smaller than Borgers and a little bit bigger
than Shellhammers.
Tony Barhorst and the Rumble Series is presenting the "Racin' In the
Holidays" event at the Ft. Wayne Coliseum on Dec. 31st and Jan.1st.The
Slingshots will be taking the green with local racing stars hoping to get
one of the possible ride openings as Tony is looking for rentals for any
team taking extra cars. Present plans call for no provisional's with 18 cars
qualifying and a fan vote for 2 cars. Our last efforts there were in 2007
with 19 cars entered. This is open to all Slingshot teams, Junior or All
Star. The track is roughly the same size as AC, but has no inside
guardrails. More can be seen at
www.rumbleseries.com.Current payout has the Slingshots running for $500
to win each night. TV coverage on the Speed Channel and local news put the
Slingshots into the national spotlight for the weekend. Ft. Wayne has many
lodging businesses to choose from as well as many great eating places. Tony
is planning on having a New Year's Eve Party at the Coliseum with all fans,
drivers and crews celebrating the New Year ...Racing Style.
I'm hoping to hear from the Sammons Motorsports Productions regarding the
Snack Bowl 25 at AC in January.
Penn Can's Small Car Nationals is starting to attract the interest of many
of the local Slingshot teams as this event is currently the only special
event for the Slingshots on Labor day weekend. More is posted on their track
website.
The Sunshine Region will have another National added to their schedule to
make up for the 2 that were canceled during the season due to the weather.
The growth in that area is remarkable as there will now be over 20
Slingshots within a 4 hour radius of all the speedways used in Florida. Mark
Clauss, Earl Roberts, Earl Maxham and Robby Sweeten along with Jason Ford
have spread the word at every tour race and exhibition since their presence
at the Awards Banquet.
Button Buck will be hosting the Hartland National ,which will also be
labeled as a Super National for this region, with the usual -2 given for
every car under 30 entered. Their last Great Lakes Regional will take place
on the 28th with a few positions left up for grabs. Jeremy Paulson currently
leads the Great Lakes Region.
Please check out the Slingshot by Tobias Group Page on Facebook. There
should be more members getting onboard. Teams news, upcoming events and
congrats messages are always welcomed.
It was enjoyable watching Slingshot alumni drivers Kevin Albert, Jr and Nate
Christman mixing it up with the modifieds at Big Diamond Raceway with Kevin
sitting in the top 10 in points and Nate getting a 14th in only his 2nd trip
to the 3/8th mile in a modified.
Shannon Smith, Kim Glass, Kurt Bettler, Kyle Lick, Mike Glass, Brittany
Tresch, Molly and Cait Chambers, Mark Gilmore, Gary and Mark Berkenstock,
Joseph Kata, Tiffany Wambold and many more are really attracting a lot of
attention in the micro classes. The Slingshots are a great springboard to
further racing careers.
Thursday looks to be a hit and miss day at SE. Rich is planning on being
here, but Ron and I will be having the day off. I will be heading to West
End, I will gladly bring small parts to West End, but will not bring or
take back engines. I need to know by the time I leave here on Weds, if
anyone needs anything.
KUTZTOWN PLUS END OF WEEK RACING THOUGHTS.. Issue 84 Myerstown PA, August 19th, 2010: Thank you to everyone that ventured to Kutztown last night. I will try to resolve the payout situation. The addition of the 2 provisional's should not have taken any money away from anyone. What it should have been was the provisional's had $45 taken from their payout and that 45 would be given to the other racers. The drivers that finished from 21-26 that were not provisional's and didn't get any money, let me know. I will try to work out some arrangement.
If someone needed me for anything and I could not make it, I'm very sorry. I
was stretched every way possible. I wanted to give everyone some photo
coverage, help to oversee the running of the time trials and heats, make
sure no one was late for the grid lineups and try to round-up as much added
money as I could to help with the payout.
I need to thank Dennis McKeon for helping with post race tech and scaling,
Ron Hollinger for trying to answer any engine questions and help with the
Junior tech. Juniors.......all I can say is that you put on one of the best
shows anywhere in any class.10 cars is not an earth shattering field ,but
you guys and gals came to race.
First off, please don't forget that Thunder Mtn is having an Empire Region
race on Sunday at 6 PM. Camping or simply staying over is permitted on
speedway grounds.
Special thanks to EZ Release Pro Shop, Kim's Kreations, Duffers Beer
Distributor, RPM New & Used Slinger Parts, Super Clear Tearoffs, Nancy's
Computer Repair, Christman's Meats, Strapped In Magazine, Miller MS Clutch
Re-lining, XS Energy Drink, NAPA of Flemington, Speedway Entertainment and
everyone that helped to put this race together.
Next up.. West End Fair. I currently have some lap sponsors and would like
the special awards to grow. Let me know if there is a special lap or award
you would like to help with. 2 races remain on the Junior National schedule
and they are at Caroga Creek and Hamlin. It looks like quite a few positions
can change with these 2 events left. The DunnHill2 and Reading events were
counted into the Junior National Tour ,but also get separate points as
Neutral Track Events. The Lindas Super National on Sept 25-26 is open to any
Slingshot driver 12 years old and over. Mark Clauss is finalizing the final
2010 National date for the Slingshots with the Florida track to be named
shortly. Wachusett Park and Jolly Roger are looking to get a Slingshot Class
started. Many of their weekly regulars are hoping to see an exhibition in
the future to make their decision. Weather looks good for the weekend.
Hopefully you will get out and race. My Sunday plans might have me heading
to Thunder Mtn, pending track time spent at Grandview on Saturday night.
UPCOMING EVENTS AT AREA RACETRACKS, CHASSIS & ENGINE 4 SALE.. Issue 83
Myerstown PA, August 18th, 2010:
The Empire Region event at Thunder Mtn. on Sunday has perked the interest of
a few teams. Rich's gear recommendation is a 49,50,51.Camping is permitted
at anytime during the course of the weekend. I don't think there can be a
closer race for a Regional Championship as what is going on in the Empire
Region.10 points separate the top 3,this is absolutely incredible.
Many of the top racing organizations such as USAC and DIRT use a provisional
system that Rich will be putting into place. Since many teams are racing for
regional or national points, the use of a provisional will see your payout
based on your final finish in regards to money earned.
If you start the race that pays $50 for last and finish last you will get
the points ,but no money. If you finish 10th and it pays $125,you get 10th
place points, but your payout will be $75.The starting money will be
subtracted from the actual payout, if a provisional is used.
This DOES NOT mean you blast your way towards the front, just because you
made the race. You will be sent to the rear or black flagged, just like any
of the regularly qualified cars.
I received 22 emails so far regarding the 2 proposed payouts for Kutztown
and so far a resounding 21 to 1 for Payout B has been sent to me. I'm really
hoping that all 22 of the responses will be Kutztown entries.
West End Fair is looking to make the 2010 version of the Small Car Nationals
an event that will be on everyone's "Must See" schedule. Entries for all
classes are exceeding 2009 and they are maxing all classes at 50.Payout is
listed on their website.
There has been some talk regarding 100 laps at Lindas for the Lebanon Valley
100.Shortening of the race is being discussed..
Special thanks to Kim's Kreations and EZ Release Pro Shop for helping to
sponsor the Dutch Classic. It seems more businesses might come onboard.
Caroga Creek's 2 day extravaganza is only 9 days away and some of their
alumni are looking to return for this popular event. It is also the Junior
National on the 28th.There is a chance I could be heading up to Ephratah, NY
for this.
Button Buck has 2 point races left on their calendar, those being the Great
Lakes Regional on August 28th and the Hartland National on Sept.4th.
Hamlin Speedway's Triple Header on Sept. 18th will have Super National Point
Status with MA Silver and the season's final Junior National A Main.
Currently I am looking towards the 2011 schedule and it is almost 100%
certain that the AC Indoor Classic's Snack Bowl 25 will be a National points
race. Danny Sammons is also taking into consideration making the top 2 in
2010 National Points, guaranteed starters. This doesn't mean we keep going
until we get 2 drivers, if the 1st or 2nd place driver isn't entered, that
is one more driver from the B Main. More on this later.
Tony Barhorst has expressed interest in putting the Slingshots back on the
Rumble Series schedule in Ft. Wayne, IN. The races were run in 2007 with
Ryan Smith winning both events. Anthony Perrego went home $300 richer as the
Sprint Car Simulator winner. This year's version or should I say next year's
will be held New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. What a way to spend the end
of the year...RACING.
That's it for now. weather looks great for Ktown tomorrow night. They are
running the Micro Nationals tonight if anyone is heading that way.
KUTZTOWN SPONSORSHIPS, KIM'S KREATIONS BECOMES K-TOWN RACE SPONSOR, UPCOMING EVENTS AT AREA RACETRACKS, CHASSIS & ENGINE 4 SALE.. Issue 82
Myerstown PA, August 16th, 2010:
Janelle and the fine staff at Kutztown are looking for a race sponsor
for the Dutch Classic. It seems that the monetary help she was to
receive has passed over the race and now the race is currently
unsponsored. Title rights will be given, you can have tables, handouts
and mention of your company, business or even just you if you wish to
come onboard. I will let everyone know that my proposal to Bieber Bus
was rejected...because racing people don't use charter transportation,
was the reply.
Lap sponsors, heat winner sponsors are also needed. SE will be giving 2
$25 Gift Certificates for this event. Currently Janelle will be starting
24 cars for the A Main, but will start more if added money can be
secured. Ricky Yetter will get a guaranteed spot from winning the Spring
Spectacular at Shellhammers, Kutztown's highest 2010 points driver that
didn't qualify and the highest non-qualified MA GOLD driver will be the
only provisional's allowed. If there is a 30 car entry, things look very
promising, but the added money and sponsorship will go a long, long way.
Contact me or Janelle at
racektown@aol.com if you want to
help with a lap, heat or even the whole event. I will guarantee that
everyone that donated anything to this race will be mentioned at the
drivers meeting and on the track PA for the fans.
Here is the 2 payout proposals for Kutztown Dutch Classic. Due
to the loss of the major sponsor, they have the purse with the
proposed 1200 to win, but also an alternative payout that is
better all the way back except for 1st. Janelle is asking for
everyone to look them over and let her or I know, which would
best suit you for Thurs. night.
Kims Kreation's has become a race sponsor and here is a link to
her website. Please check it out.

The Thunder Mtn. Empire Region race that was rained out on the 15th is being
rescheduled for the 22nd.If anyone would like to spend the weekend there
after watching a regular season modified race there on Friday or if you want
to head to Thunder Mtn. after your regular Saturday night program, camping
is available the whole weekend.
With 83 acres of land Thunder Mtn. will not turn anyone down that would like
to stay there until the racing begins. Starting time for the Empire Region
event is 6:30 PM. A car count tour purse will be paid. They will start up to
30 cars. With the Empire Region up for grab and 2 races left on the schedule
anything can happen. Thunder Mtn. is located off of Int 81 north of
Binghamton.
At Penn Can there will be added an Empire Region event. There are many teams
that run at Hamlin, WVMP, OVDO and Accord that could take full advantage of
this event. Please support this. Currently it is the only special Labor Day
weekend race on the schedule. Here is the link:

Here is the link for the West End Fair payout which to say the least is Top
Notch for any small car class. I will try to get an update on # of entries
and any other news of interest.

Kutztown Fair is awaiting the Slingshots on Thursday August 19th.Please
remember they will be using the back pit entrance instead of the usual Weds
night entrance. Parking in the college lot will be allowed, but all pit
passes will be sold at the back pit entrance.

KUTZTOWN RACE RECAP, UPCOMING EVENTS AT AREA RACETRACKS.. Issue 81
Myerstown PA, August 13th, 2010:
It's hard to believe that the racing season is hitting it's final
stretches at some tracks. Kutztown will put the final events in the
books next week with micro racing Tues and Weds and the Slingshots, both
classes, on Thurs. The racing on Weds was exciting to say the least as
Mike Glass and Shannon Smith were only 1 point apart in hopes of
claiming the 2010 All Star Point Crown. Mike Glass got shuffled to the
back in the early stages of the A Main and Shannon was carefully trying
to move up without getting involved in any accidents. Mike used the low
side with his pass of Shannon with 5 to go and held on to claim the
title. Travis Bieber put the 114 in victory lane after a strong run.
The Juniors had to run a July 21 makeup and TJ Lilly took matters into
his own hands right away by getting to the front and withstood all
challenges from Chris Kurtz and Louden Reimert en route to the victory.
The regular event had some early action as newcomer Dylan Swinehart,
Kyle Gruber and Derek Guest were swapping spots for the first 8 laps
only to have Swinehart get a little anxious and become a DNF after a
bout with the 4th turn Jersey Barrier. AJ Gerhart let it be known early
that his sights were set on a win. TJ Lilly and Louden Reimert chased AJ
to the checkered. TJ Lilly had a remarkable season and was named the
2010 Kutztown Fair Speedway Junior Slingshot Champion. Special thanks to
all teams that made the Weds night trip to Kutztown. Still 1 more week
to go.
The Empire Region has a date at Thunder Mtn on Sunday. Kutztown has the
Dutch Classic Thursday, next Thurs is the West End Fair National. Caroga
Creek has a 2 day show on the 27th for the All Stars and Junior Practice
with the 28th being a Big Show for both classes. Hamlin has their Super
National and Junior National on the 18th of September. This will be the last
Junior National of the season. Penn Can is hosting the Slingshots for a
Labor Day weekend event on Sept 5th. We are currently looking at the date
for the NJMP Road Course and Tri-oval races.
Had a chat with Talladega Short Track officials and if we can come up with a
15 car minimum, there is a possibility of having a dual show there in
2011 with the 1/5 mile used on Friday night and the 3/8th
on Saturday night. The dates would be late October. More on that later. The
last events run there were won by Shannon Smith. Former Alabama Slingshot
dealer Larry Spencer will help with the arrangements when needed.
The Sunshine Region will have another tour date added to their 2010
schedule. Slingerweeks III is also being planned by Florida Slingshot dealer
Mark Clauss as quite a few tracks are asking about hosting the Slingshots
for the early season tour plans.
Hopefully we will see a nice car count for the All Stars and Juniors at
Kutztown this Thurs. The Fair has some great Grange Hall food and remember
the pit entrance is moved up to the college parking lot side instead of
around the corner. Parking in the college lot will be free for crew members.
Please make sure you are there for the drivers meeting, it is very
important. Race sponsorship and lap money is being accepted.
TOBIAS, KLINE AND MARTZ TOP BIG 3 TOURS.. Issue 81
Myerstown PA, August 12th, 2010:
The August 10th running of the Nostalgia
National at the Reading Fairgrounds did much to shake up the Elite 11
Slingshot by Tobias National Championship as well as the Mid Atlantic Gold
and MA Silver tours.
Currently atop the National Championship
leader board is Annville, PA's Rich Tobias. The designer and founder of the
Slingshot's was offered a ride in the February Slingerweeks at Sumter County
in Florida and also was at the helm of the Thompson Motorsports 22 for the
Nostalgia National.
Tobias' 3rd place run at Sumter County and
his 21st place run in the Nostalgia Super National has Rich just 4 points
ahead of the Sunshine Region's Earl Maxham, who made the long haul to PA to
run Reading and mix it up with the tour regulars at Shellhammers on August
7th.
Branden Clauss is sitting in 3rd with the
Queen of Small Car Racing at Button Buck Lexi Schott, just 2 points behind
him.
The Super National point system gives 30
extra points to each finishing position in selected National races that was
approved prior to the start of any of the 2010 tour events.
Shannon Smith's Nostalgia National win is
proof what the added points can do as Shannon makes an appearance in 5th
spot with only 1 National event run. The Kunkletown, PA college student will
have a few more chances to move up the points ladder in her quest for the
$1200 offered to the National Champion.
The red 00 that races weekly at Button Buck
is piloted by Jeremy Paulson, who currently leads the Great Lakes Region,
but his National finishes at the scheduled races at Button Buck still slot
him under his home track counterpart Schott.
2009 Shellhammers Point Champion Brett
Bieber from Oley, PA along with the newly crowned 2010 Kutztown Fair
Speedway Slingshot Champion, Mike Glass have the 7th and 8th spots after
Reading.
Rounding out the top 11 is one of youngest
drivers in Slingshot competition, Minnesota's, Dustin Sorensen in 9th, with
another Sunshine Region racer, CR Hill residing in 10th as 2009 National
Champion ,Cody Kline is moving up the point standings after a broken wrist
sidelined Cody until the end of June is now occupying the final paying spot
for the Elite 11.
The Mid Atlantic Silver Tour which
currently has an average car count of 27 entries is headed by 2009 MA Silver
Champion Cody Kline who is sitting atop the list with 700 points. Strong
challenges for the top 3 paying spots are being provided by Matt "The Real
Deal" Dealaman who has his red 07 in 2nd with 583 points.3rd through 7th
currently is anyone's guess as Matt Mertz resides in 3rd with 497 points
,but Brad Arnold is 7th with 431 points. Drivers between Mertz and Arnold
are Brett Bieber, Shannon Smith and JR Fulper.
Right now it's a 3 man race for the MA Gold
point chase as Matt Mertz in the always prepared 97 leads the charge with
779 tallies. Continuing to shine this season is Warren, NJ's Matt Dealaman
,who decided to cutback on weekly competition and take on all comers in the
touring series. Matt has the 2nd spot only 13 points behind Mertz at
767.With the rest of the season's MA Gold races at some of his favorite
tracks, the pilot of the 32,Brett Bieber still has a chance to shake things
up above him as he garnered 645 points so far.
The 2010 season will be soon seeing some
speedways calling it a season, but with all the races that are left, the
money being offered and points that can be earned it will surely see the
Slingshot by Tobias racers making every effort to make sure they are ready
for the challenges that lie ahead of them at the following tracks :
Kutztown, West End Fair, Button Buck, Hamlin, Borgers, Dirt Devils, Lindas
and the New Jersey Motorsports Park.
JUNIOR SLINGSHOT RECAP FROM READING, ALL-STAR QUALIFYING, WYALUSING VALLEY, ACCORD JUNIOR CAR COUNT IN DOUBLE DIGITS.. Issue 80
Myerstown PA, August 10th, 2010:
All I can say is anyone that decided to keep your younger racers home, you
missed one hell of a night at Reading. The top 6 cars were only separated by
2 seconds and there was not 1 spot that had a clear cut finish to it.
Special thanks to the families of Dippel, Buccafusca, Kurtz, Lilly, Martin,
Campbell and Gerhart for giving the fans at Reading a great show. The
officials complimented the young drivers and all teams were treated with
respect. Congrats to all drivers and to Tyler Dippel on his win. The elapsed
time for the whole 20 laps was 8:01 and the green flag racing was 6:55,so
with only 1 caution the fans were treated to some great racing. The
checkered for the whole evening was thrown at 9:20. Here's hoping that the
Kutztown Junior National can add to this car count.
The All Stars had some dicey moments during qualifying last night, but after
the dual heat format and the B Main the 24 cars were set for the 40 lap
Nostalgia National. For the first time since it's inception, we only needed
3 provisional's since there was no other Empire Region team entered (Charlie
Lawrence qualified through the B Main) and there was no representation from
the Great Lakes Region.
It's a shame that races like this that have plenty of fans in the stands and
get the media coverage can only draw 33 cars. The payout is very good, the
fair atmosphere is great for people of all ages and the show is quick moving
with adequate time for changes after qualifying. Brenda Cordier's use of the
transponder gave race teams a good indication of who was fast as they posted
all lap times on the pit trailer. Brett Bieber and Jordan Henn will be in
charge of getting the field to the green. The 3 teams getting into the A
Main through the provisional's were Jimmy Bassett(17th MA Gold), Earl Maxham
(3rd Sunshine Reg.) and Simon Whitnell(49th MA Silver). One of the
highlights of the evening was watching Branden Clauss having to find away
around his dad Mark during the B Main for one of the last qualifying spots.
The last 4 laps of that event was worth the $10 admission price alone.
I know the economy plays an important role in decisions, but for everyone
that sends me an email about not having enough races that pay good money,
many of you missed this one. The next one up is Kutztown on the 19th with
West End concluding The Big Triple on the 26th. Don't forget that Kutztown
will have it's 2nd to last week of the season tomorrow night.
Billy Maynard wants to thank everyone that decided to be a part of the
racing at Wyalusing Valley on Saturday night. He hopes that your night at
WVMP was an enjoyable experience and think about returning in the future.
Barry "The Voice of Choice" Angstadt was masterful behind the mic last night
at Reading and he would like everyone to know that the team info he received
was being put into good use.
Ed Pados showed his appreciation of racing at Reading with a sincere
interview during the B Main intermission. Thanks Ed for the great words
about the Slingshots and the racing at the Reading Fairgrounds.
Accord's Empire Region race will be awaiting teams on Weds. night. Tommy
Perrego told me the Junior car count at Accord has reached double digits and
he's hoping for a double digit All Star showing.
WEEKEND RECAP, READING NEWS, REGISTRATION CHECK, KUTZTOWN, WEST END, ACCORD, CAROGA CREEK, BORGER'S, SHELLHAMMER'S, RED ENGINE SEAL UPDATE, & DUTCH COUNTRY POINTS & PAYOUT.. Issue 79
Myerstown PA, August 9th, 2010:
Some great racing at Selinsgrove and Shellhammers this weekend for the 2
tour stops and Speedweek races. Selinsgrove was checkered at 10:20 with
Shellhammers getting the checkered at 8:16 after a 7 + minute feature. The
scales at Selinsgrove seemed to be the toughest part of the track to get a
feel for. Great racing surface and a big thank you to Charlie Paige and his
staff for slotting us in as one of the early feature classes. He always asks
us to be a part of his Micro Nationals, but there never is any response. He
offers a tour purse to all who attend.
Cody Kline notched the trifecta at Selinsgrove with 2 heat wins and the 25 A
Main.
Shellhammers saw only 2 cautions in over 70 laps of racing with 1 in the
qualifiers and 1 in the A Main. The Shollenberger Bros put on one hell of a
show with Brett Bieber supplying a lot of the action. Blanket finish for the
top 3 and a blanket over 4-6th.The Florida drivers took to the high banked
1/8th mile quickly and Branden Clauss could be a strong contender at Reading
with Earl Maxham getting quicker as the race moved on. The $300 to win was
Colby's biggest payday in the Slingshots. Clint Miller seems to have a knack
for getting around the 1/8th mile, it is a pleasure to watch this talented
young racer work the high banks. Sounds like some wheeling and dealing took
place at Borgers with hard luck replacing skill for some of the teams.
Caroga Creek might just be getting the award for closest weekly finishes as
another barnburner to the checkered at the Ephratah, NY oval.
Phone call from the Reading Fairgrounds has race teams there already. Rich
is hoping to have the SE hauler in place for a 2 PM start on tech. I will
have the regional point sheets along so everyone can see where they sit if a
provisional is needed. The 2008 race went down to the 7th place driver in
Empire Region points, so anything is possible. Speedweeks for 2010 saw a
slight increase in entries as all races so far this year have all bettered
last years entry totals. Currently the top 3 are locked in, maybe not where
they are currently slotted but cannot finish outside the top 5 if they are
entered for Reading. Those drivers being Cody Kline(555),Brett Bieber(460)
and Brad Arnold(456).Matt Dealaman(359) and Matt Mertz(334) occupy 4th and
5th.Clint Miller(314),Matt Miller(273) and Anthony Schlosser(242) have
mathematical chances to move into a paying spot.
I'm amazed at all the teams that sit home when a track has it's bye week.
There are many options to choose from and many tracks will increase the
payout if there are more cars entered. Sometimes it's great to get out and
race against other competition, it makes your driver better and also gets
your name and sponsors out in front of more race fans.
Registrations will be checked at Reading, Kutztown and West End. The up to
date registration list in on the website. If you know someone that is
planning on running, let them know. Randy Smith and S&S Speedways will be
the Reading dealer and will be parked by the turn 1 track exit. Accord goes
with the Empire Regional on Weds night. Tommy Perrego will be helping to
oversee the running of the show. Lap money for the All Stars and Juniors
will still be accepted at Reading, track me down or page me to the pit
trailer.
Special thanks to Langhorne Motorsports for their appearance on the Strapped
In TV show on BCTV and bctv.org. It was the second most watched show of the
month and had the most website hits for the live streaming and the archive
show section. Heading off to Reading today at 2 PM. What is left in t-shirts
and hats will be sold at Reading. It's my daughter, Jen, selling these
items, be nice to her. She is a diehard racing fan, she'll gladly talk
racing with everyone. The Grange Hall responsible for the racing area would
like the drink and minor food business. It is the understanding that the
racing teams and fans must support them to keep the interest in having us
moving forward for years to come.
The Red Seal / Metal Seal outcome is as follows:
To continue racing on a $300 deposit must be made. Red seals will be shipped
and Rich will have instructions on where these are to be placed. Do not take
metal seals off and engine cannot be taken apart. The engine must be
returned to SE by 12/ 31 / 10.Metal seal #'s will be checked with the engine
it is coming off of to make sure that nothing was previously tampered with.
If temporary red seal engine wins, we must be notified with engine # it is
used on. To discuss this further call Rich at 717-866-7450.He will be
heading to Reading today and tomorrow.
Dutch Country Points. Here is the top 3: Travis Bieber 33 $100,
Pete Knappenberger 32 $50, Mike Glass 28 $ 25
The rundown can be seen at
www.racersroundtable.com.
NJMP RACE DATE MOVED BACK, RED SEAL DEADLINE WILL REMAIN, READING LAP MONEY.. Issue 72
Myerstown PA, August 6th, 2010:
The NJMP 2 day events will be moved back, since the ARCA event and
support classes will be needing all of the officials throughout the
complex to be working and the karting areas officials will have to work
with ARCA.
Rich is looking into a late October, early November make-up date for
this with a possible early day romp on the tri-oval, a break for change
over to the road course and then a picnic afterwards. All plans are
tentative, but the races scheduled for Aug. 14 & 15 have been moved
back.
In an effort to stay within the guidelines that was set last year, the
red seal rule for the August 15th deadline WILL REMAIN. To keep pace
with the engines that need to be changed over, Rich will look to be a
part of the teardowns and rebuilding involved to get the engines back to
everyone in an orderly manner. This has been in the making for over 14
months and Rich feels that there was plenty of time for all teams to
have their seals replaced. There are some teams that have recently
bought engines as spares that are not red sealed, we will try to take
care of everyone, as they come in. Since August 15th is a Sunday, it
will be extended 2 days to the 17th because we are not open on a
Saturday or Sunday.
Please remember that Rich will be doing pre-race tech at Reading
beginning at 2:00 on Monday. Fuel cells DO NOT have to be emptied.
Lap Money for Reading is still being taken. Currently I have 23 laps asked for but only these are finalized: Lap 1 $10 RPM Used Slinger Parts Sales Lap 2.$ 5 Lisa's Longaberger Sales Lap 10 $ 10 US Marines Lap 15 $ 10 US Marines Lap 19 $ 5 Elliott Sadler's # 1 Fan Lap 20 $ 60 US Marines $ 10 RPM Used Slinger Parts Lap 25 $ 5 Strapped In Racing Magazine Lap 25 $ 10 US Marines Lap 29 $ 10 RPM Used Slinger Parts Lap 30 $ 10 US Marines Lap 34 $ 5 BCTV Octoberfest
READING FAIR RACE INFORMATION, IMPORTANT.. Issue 71
Myerstown PA, August 5th, 2010:
I attended the meeting with the RFRHS regarding the Nostalgia Nationals and
they are not happy with our entry count for the All Stars and the Juniors,
so much that they will be asking 5 270 micro drivers to run a 12 lap
exhibition after the karting invitational. They are paying 1000 + to win and
a purse over $4,000 and we can only come up with 28 entries. Entries will be
accepted at sign-in on Monday if anyone is interested in attending.
The Junior National Tour future will be looked at very closely for 2011 and
quite possibly see the end of this way of giving the younger drivers more
tracks to get seat time with, since most of you do not want to leave the
confines of your weekly track, which you have every right to, which might
result in the elimination of a Junior National Tour.
Monday at Reading will see the gates open for the pits around noon. A pit
clearing will be in effect at 4 for everyone to sign-in and pay for pit
passes that were not on the entry forms. Wristbands will be checked and will
be different from the wristbands used for the Fair, so please make sure you
have them on. If staying for both days, do not remove them until the
checkered is thrown on Tues. night.
Drivers meeting on Monday will start at 5:30.Hot laps are planned for 5:45
to 6:30.You must go to the end of the line after each hot lap session, no
gypping. Dual heat format for both groups. B Main will be run on Monday.
Currently they are going to pay out a 13 car Junior purse even if 5 cars are
entered. Please thank them for this kindness
I tried to have the driver intro with car done on the track, but they shot
me down. I realize that pushing a Slingshot on grass is not easy, please be
careful. Brenda Cordier has asked that anyone with the orange
Transponder pouches, to please bring them to Reading, since they will be
using transponders this year. The track surface was widened in
turns 3 and 4 and banked more in 1 and 2.The big track burm tires are to be
replaced by smaller tires. They have agreed with your evaluation that the
bigger tires hinder your eyesight, so there is no reason now to not see what
is happening coming off of turn 2.
Galen will be the Chief Starter ,Dave Cordier, Jr will be Race Director, DO
NOT COME TO ME. I'm a nobody for this event, other than a photographer and
lap money collector.
Speaking of lap money, we are getting additions to it everyday, since I'm
typing this at home, the rundown will be done from work tomorrow. Always
looking for more to give back to the racers. I just got a $100 from the US
Marines, we should all thank them for sacrificing their lives for our
freedoms.
Selinsgrove will be the sight of Friday nights Speedweek event with entries
being accepted at 5:30 and racing starting at 7.Shellhammers goes off on
Saturday with a 3 PM closing time for early entry, but will accept them
until the start of the A Main ,if possible. Drivers meeting, hot laps and
qualifying start around 5.300 to win,20 cars+ entered will see $500 to win.
CONGRATS and thank you to all who took part in Kutztown's show Weds. night.
I was sitting on the hill and had the pleasure of hearing a micro sprint fan
saying that the Slingers wouldn't get 1 lap in before seeing a yellow. 27
CARS, yes 27 CARS went non-stop from green to checkered. Some of the best
racing I have seen in any class in years. You surely can do it. Thanks to
the drivers that got off the track safely whether by the 3rd turn exit or
pulling into the infield, it showed the fans that the Slingshots have the
ability to put on a great show. Hopefully everyone will return to finish out
their season.
RED SEAL ENGINES.. Issue 70 Myerstown PA, August 4th, 2010: I'm working on giving back to the race teams by way of lap money for the upcoming National Tripleheader. I have started collecting lap money for the Nostalgia Nationals at Reading and will make an announcement at Reading if anyone wants to contribute there. No amount is too small. Since last year's $900 will never be duplicated, I still look forward to giving back by way of you, the owners, drivers, family, friends and crews. If you want to sponsor a lap or more with a business, it will be listed for each lap. Currently I have:
Lap 2 - $5 Lisa's Longaberger Sales
Lap 19- $5 Elliott Sadler's # 1 Fan
Lap 25- $5 Strapped In Racing Magazine
Lap 30- $5 BCTV's Octoberfest
I will be discussing the red seal deadline with Rich in hopes of giving
everyone adequate time for the transfer without possibly missing any racing
events. I am suggesting that the Borgers National be the last race for metal
seals. That will give all teams from Oct 19th until their first planned race
to get the red seals mounted.
Still no news from Sammons Motorsports regarding AC.
Congrats to 2009 Great Lakes Regional Champion Lucas Schott on his recent
modified win in his rookie season with the high powered mods.
Anyone wishing to sponsor a lap, for any of the Big Triple quickly
approaching can call or email me and I will put it wherever you wish to have
the money used. Duplicate lap sponsors will not be turned away.
RED SEAL ENGINES.. Issue 69
Myerstown PA, August 3rd, 2010:
The deadline for legality of the metal seals is coming to a close. On August
16th all metal seals will be considered illegal. The red seals have been in
use since June 2008 and if we haven't seen your engine here in that amount
of time, other questions will arise.
Metal seals will still be legal for Reading. Rich is planning on a pre-race
teching of all entered cars at Reading and quite possibly Kutztown and the
tech staff from Borgers will be prepared for West End.
All work records are on file for every engine that has been here for
rebuilds and repairs, so if you only need seals replaced, there will be a
minimum charge for labor needed to legally replace the engine seals.
I will answer this question again for the Junior teams. If there is an All
Star race at a speedway you would like your Junior to race at, they will be
allowed to race as an All Star and return to the Junior Class providing they
did not run a Junior and All Star event in the same scheduled program.
Reading and Kutztown are 2 prime examples coming up as well as any weekly
track that has both classes. Juniors moving to an All Star event must weigh
a minimum of 760.
Reading meeting is tomorrow, more news will be forthcoming from West End and
the Thunder Mtn Empire Region event on the 15th has a starting time of 5 PM.
ONE WEEK UNTIL READING & MORE.. Issue 68
Myerstown PA, August 2nd, 2010:
After having a nice discussion with Randy Smith at Pocono
on Sunday, he would like to thank any and all that helped, supported and
attended the Sparky Spectacular at Hamlin on Saturday. He also wants to
thank all entries in All Stars. Juniors and Super Classes. Simon Egan, Jimmy
Johnston and Danny Buccafusca added wins to their Hamlin career totals.
Lindas Speedway had a tour night that featured a dual heat format with Gary
Hieber taking the checkered. The MA Silver Regional Tour stop was at the
Jonestown oval as well as it kicking in the 2010 Speedweeks Mini Tour. Cody
Kline and Brett Bieber are picking up right where they left off in
2009.Lindas will take a Friday night off for all teams to head to
Selinsgrove's Raceway Park. Charlie Paige and his staff will work with us in
getting us out at a decent time to make arrangements for your Saturday night
activities, whether it be Shellhammers, Borgers, WVMP or OVDO.
The Reading Nostalgia Nationals will begin in 1 week with a meeting being
slated for Weds night at the Fairgrounds. I will be in attendance and will
let everyone know anything of importance that wasn't previously discussed.
Entries will be accepted at pit sign-in. Please try to get your team info to
race announcer Barry "The Voice of Choice" Angstadt at
bwa39@comcast.net.He will give team info
during the course of the evening's program, whether it be a Junior driver or
an All Star driver. Sponsors, driver info is all welcomed. Reading is a
Super National with 150 points going to the winner and 60 points for 30th
with all DNQ's getting 50 points.
Shellhammers and Borgers have both upped their payouts for the August 7th
night of racing. Borgers will be presenting a regular weekly program, with
non-points, a tour style run evening and the winner getting a West End Fair
spot. Higher payout contingent on car counts. Shellhammers will be hosting
the 2nd to last Speedweeks event with 300 to win with 19 and less
entries and 500 to win with a 20 + car entry. A 22 car maximum starting
field will be put in place. If car count exceeds 22,tour and Speedweek
points will be given as finished with 23rd through 30th getting regular tour
points. Anyone over 30th will get the 20 show points.
Accord will host an Empire Regional on August 11th with Thunder Mtn seeing
the Empire region on Aug 15th.
West End Fair is seeing the entry lists continually growing with a 50 car
max. Kutztown is asking for entry forms to be submitted early or dropped off
at the pit shack for name use in upcoming press releases.
I want to thank everyone that sent me an email regarding my duties at
Kutztown last Weds. Great racing on the 1/5 mile. Hoping to see some new
faces in the upcoming weeks leading up to the Aug. 19th Dutch Classic. Ricky
Yetter has expressed a strong desire to be in the starting field as a
guaranteed starter from Shellhammers. Please keep in mind that this Weds,
Kutztown's program will count towards the Speedweeks points.
I hope to be discussing the AC Indoor Racing Show with Lenny Sammons soon.
They were looking into a time trial Main and B Main format, which would save
wear and tear and excessive laps on the 1/12th Boardwalk Hall oval. It was
discussed on the possibility of giving up to the top 3 in final 2010
National Points a guaranteed spot for this. More will be known a little
later.
Many of you have asked what the payouts are for the 2010 season.
